I can't believe it is the end of August. Where does the time go? This week I am sharing this card for Pink Saturday. I made it awhile ago but I have never shared it on my blog before. I made the background by pouncing wild plum and butterscotch alcohol inks on acetate that was sprayed with rubbing alcohol. The Art stamp is from Alluring Impressions. This card is now up for sale in my Etsy shop. I didn't get to participate in Pink Saturday last week because my in-laws were in town but I am still going to take Beverly up on her challenge of linking someones blog that I have never visited before until now. This person is Emilie at The Kaiser Family Circus so if you have a minute head on over there and visit her today too. Also don't forget to visit our hostess Beverly as well to see all the other participants today. That's it for now. As always thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Pink Saturday!
It's that time again. This month the challenge was to create a project inspired by any aspect of fall. It is hard for me accept that fall is just around the corner because I don't feel like we got to enjoy very much summer this year due to all the rain we have had but I can already feel it in the air though. When I think of fall the first thing that comes to mind is Rosh Hashanah, which is the start of the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah is always a Fall Holiday and is usually in September. This year it starts on September 18th and will be year 5770. So for this challenge this is what I came up with.
A tradition during this holiday is eating apples dipped in honey, it is a symbol of our wish for a sweet new year so the apple and the bees on the card signify that. I also included a shofar because it is another big part of the holiday as well. I started by finding an apple template then I cut it out of some Papertrey Pure Poppy Cardstock and embossed it with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder. Next I cut out a leaf from Ripe Avocado cardstock and the stem from Dark Chocolate cardstock then embossed them with the Swiss Dots embossing folder too and added them to the apple. I stamped the Shofar from from the Mazel Tov Set on Summer Sunrise Cardstock and embossed it with CTMH Denim embossing powder after that I cut it out with the Label 1 die and embossed it and matted it on piece of SU Pumpkin Pie Cardstock that I also cut out with the Label 1 Die and embossed too. After that I stamped some bees from the Honey Bee Set with Momento Black Ink then colored in the stripes with a yellow Copic marker and cut them out. The sentiment is from the Mazel Tov Set as well. Inside the card you will find a blank space to write a message on and another bee. This card also qualifies for the Cuttlebug Challenge #45 too. That's it for now. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone else that is participating came up with. As always thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great night.
Today is a day for Celebration. There are 2 things to celebrate today. The first one is my sisters 38th birthday. She is 2 1/2 years younger than I am but seems like the older sister a lot of the time. When we were little she didn't like me very much because she felt like I got more attention than she did but as we grew older we became much closer and are very close now. Even though she only lives about a mile away we still talk on the phone almost everyday. I am so thankful to have her in my life. She has always been a been a big fan of my work and when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday she said she would like some hair clips so that is what I made her. Of course I couldn't just give her the hair clips by themselves I had to make some special packaging to put them in. The box was made from Lauren Meaders new small Tucked Away My Timeless Template using Sweet Blush Cardstock. I stamped the roses from the Garden of Life Set on the Stampers Select White mat piece with Sweet Blush ink and used Spring Moss to stamp the leaves. I finished the box off with a piece of pink blush polka dot ribbon and a tiny tag that was stamped with the birthday wishes stamp from the original Mixed Messages set. I made the barrettes by crocheting the flowers using 2 different colors of floss this time. I colored the snap clips and the buttons with alcohol inks. She came over this morning to get her nails done and loved it. I also gave her a dozen pink roses as well which are her favorite flower. Today is also my 2 year blogging anniversary. It is hard to believe that 2 years have gone by since I started this blog. Even though I don't post everyday like I said I would in the beginning I am still happy to be able to have kept it going this long. This blog as become a great outlet for me to share my thoughts and my artwork and I have especially enjoyed meeting other bloggers and seeing their work as well. I would like to take the time now to personally thank everyone one of you that has stopped by and for all the encouraging and supportive comments I have gotten. I hope to continue this blog for many more years to come. I will be skipping Pink Saturday this week because my in-laws will be visiting but I hope to be back Tuesday with something to share for this months PTI bloghop. As always thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day.
The other day I realized I haven't talked about what I have been watching on TV this summer so I thought I would do that before I get to the video. If you would prefer to skip this part just scroll down. The season started with Gillian on the Bachlorette. I was not sure what she was thinking for awhile especially after she got rid of Jake and kept Wes around. I definitely think she picked the right guy in the end though. I really like Ed and I hope it works out for them. Next up was Tori and Dean. I know she has a lot of issues with her mom but it is definitely time they worked it out in private. Big Brother started in July. We are all big fans of that show in my house. I was definitely not happy about Jessie coming back. He is the most egotistical man I have ever seen and makes me sick. I don't know how anyone likes him and I still can't believe Lydia,Chima and Natalie were crying over him the other night. As of now I am really hoping that Jeff wins. We still have a few weeks to go though So far I have not seen a lot of talent on Americas got Talent but there are a few acts I do like so far, I can't pick a favorite yet. I don't know what the judges were thinking to let some of them in the finals though. So You Think You Can Dance ended a few weeks ago. It was another great season. I just love that show. I was really hoping that Brandon would win especially after what Mia Michales said to him in the beginning but Jeanine was good too. I will be looking forward to another season in the Fall. Chef Ramsy is still yelling on Hells Kitchen. Not much new to report there. Sometimes I wonder why I am even still watching that one. I have been a fan of The Real World since it started. It is in Cancun this season. My favortie part is looking at the beautiful turquoise water. Still watching Jon and Kate plus 8 even with all the drama surrounding them. I am on Kates side even though she has her problems. Emilia and I have also been watching Cake Boss and The Little couple on TLC this summer too and really like both of those shows. Still watching the Duggars too. This week brings the return of Top Chef and Project Runway.I am a big fan of both those shows so I am really looking forward to their return. I am still watching a lot of Food Network. I was happy to see Melissa win the The Next Food Network Star and so far I have been enjoying her new show. Just got done watching the Chefograpshy series this weekend I had seen a lot of them before but there were some new ones this time I hadn't seen. I learned some interesting things about some of the chefs which was really cool. I have added The Barefoot Contessa to my the list of shows I already watch on that channel now too. I think that about covers it. I may have missed a few but thats enough for now. I would love to hear what you think if you watch any of these show too.
Now it's time for this months Technique Tuesday video. Today I will showing you how I made this card. I originally shared it in this post. Let me know if you have any questions also if there is a technique you would like to see me do in the future please let me know. The finished card is also up for sale in my Etsy shop if anyone is interested in buying it.
I hope to be back Thursday to share the birthday present I am making for my sisters b-day and to celebrate my 2 yr blogging anniversary then too. Until then I hope you have a great day and thanks for stopping by.
ETA: I received a GSS honorable mention for this project yesterday 8/19 from Nicole Heady. It is very exciting to receive another one.
It is time for Pink Saturday again. I was finally able to get my stamp area all cleaned up this week and I can see my desk again. It took days to get it done but was definitley worth all the work in the end. I never want it to get that bad again. I will be sharing before and after pictures of it with you soon but today I am sharing a project with you that I have been wanting to make for awhile now and finally got done. Introducing the little Pink Retro Oven Box When you open the door inside you will find this A knitted cupcake pincushion.
I started by using Lauren Meaders Bun in the oven Timeless Template and PTI Sweet Blush cardstock. I also used Sliver shimmer Cardstock for the front of the door, the oven handles and burners. Next I used a stamp from the Father Knows Best stamp set on the silver burners. For the knobs I used large silver brads and the clock was stamped and cut out using a small pocket watch stamp I had from Lasting Impressions with Panache. To finish off the sides of the oven I attached sliver shimmer sheets that I embossed with the Cuttlebug diamond embossing folder. I knitted the cupcake pincushion using this pattern. The flower on the top is the single crochet flower I shared with you a few weeks ago. I am really happy with how this came out. I hope you like it too. I have put it up for sale in my Etsy shop if anyone is interested in buying it. That's all for now. Make sure you stop by Beverly's blog to see the other people that are participating today. I hope to get my monthly technique video done this afternoon too so check back on Tuesday for that. In the meantime I hope you have a great Pink Saturday and as always thanks for stopping by.
Today I am sharing a project that I was hoping to share for last weeks Pink Saturday but did not get it done in time. This months challenge for The Sheteam group I am a part of on Etsy was Back To School. This is what I came up with. The layout came from this Saturday sketch from Lauren Meader and the colors were from Dawns color challenge from last week. I started by cutting some medium weight chipboard then covered it with Berry Sorbet Cardstock. After that I lined the insides with Spring Moss and added a small piece of scalloped lace Pure Poppy cardstock to the bottom of the back cover. The Spring Moss squares on the front cover were embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss dots embossing folder. To make the apple I stamped the stem and the leaf from the new Button set then colored a PTI white button with a red Copic Sketch marker. I am trying really hard to hold out on buying any of the new colored buttons until they come out with a mixed color set. In the meantime I am using my Copics to color the white ones and so far it has been working pretty well. I also added some Faux stitching around the apple with a red Sharpie. To finish the cover off I tied a piece of Pure Poppy Saddle Stitch ribbon. I binded the notebook together using my Bind It All and 3/4" white O wires. Inside the book are 50 pieces of double sided paper. The final size of the notebook is 31/2x51/2. I think this notebook would make a great gift for a new teacher or the perfect place for a child to write their spelling words in. The notebook is now up for sale in my Etsy shop if anyone is interested in buying it. I have something else I am working on this week too and hope to share it with you on Saturday. In the meantime I am still reorganizing my craft room. The last thing I need to do is to get everything cleaned off my desk and I am dreading it since I have so many piles of things everywhere. I know once I get it done it will be worth it in the end though. I will share before and after pictures with you when I get it done. That's it for now. I hope you have a great week and as always thanks for stopping by.
I hope this post finds you all doing well. It is time for Pink Saturday again. I had hoped to share something new with you today but I decided to start reorganizing my craft room this week and it has taken longer than I expected to put it back together so I was not able to get anything new done. Because of this I had to go back into my archives again and am re-sharing this pink quilt card that I originally shared in this post. This card is one of my favorites because it received an honorable mention from Nicole Heady at that time which was very exciting for me. I have also listed this card in My Etsy shop today if anyone is interested in buying it. I hope to finish reorganizing my stamp room this weekend so I can be more productive next week and have something new to share with you next Friday. In the meantime be sure to check out Beverly's Blog to see what the other participants are sharing today and as always thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Pink Saturday.
15 yrs ago today Rich and I got married. It is hard to believe that much time has gone by since that day. Somedays it feels like we have been married for a lot longer than that. Even though we have our ups and downs it makes me happy to know that we are still committed to each other and are together after all these years. Since last year I told you all about how we got married this year I thought I would tell you all how we met. I answered a personal ad that Rich wrote. When I talked to him on the phone for the first time and found out he was 6'6 I was alittle worried about that because I am only 5'1 ( I told him I was 5'3 though) I decided to meet him anyways. On the day that we met I decided not to make myself look very presentable because I wasn't really looking forward to the meeting since I had been on a few blind dates before and they didn't go well. When I got to the restaurant that we were to suppose to meet at I saw him in the parking lot walking in and decided it may not be so bad. We ended up having a long breakfast that morning and when we were done he said he would call again. A few days later he did and we had a second date. This time I decided to look more presentable. When he came to the door to get me I answered it and he asked if I was home because he didn't recognize me. Can you believe that???? I must have looked really bad on that first date but he must have liked something about me enough to call me back either that or he was just really desperate. lol....... Anyways we had a great 2nd date that night and about 1 1/2 years later we got married. Another interesting thing I found out about him shortly after we met was his father worked for my grandfathers best friend for years and Rich's best friends girlfriend in high school was best friends with my grade school best friend after she moved away so I still think we were destined to meet. Anyways we are both the kind of people that don't like to make big deals out of birthdays and anniversaries so we are not doing anything special to celebrate but I did make him this card. I used the AI foil technique in the new TJ newsletter. I masked the heart from The Angel Company and stamped it again them embossed them with silver embossing powder to make them look like the ones that were on our wedding invitations. The sentiment is from the PTI Damask set. I also used the sketch from last months RSC sketch challenge for the layout. Rich surprised me with a really cool bear bracelet that he got for me when we went to visit his brother in new Mexico last month. It is something that I really love and will treasure always. That's it for now I will be back later this week with more things to share. In the meantime I hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by.
It's time for Pink Saturday again. I took last week off because I participated in the Papertrey Blog Hop. I am happy to be back sharing another pink item with you today though. Back in April my friend Barb started a group called the Sunshine Project and asked for help from knit and crochet folks, who had time to donate scarves for cancer victims in the Phoenix AZ, area. She went on to say there is a need for this as a comfort and a nice gesture to those going through treatment. At the time they were looking for at least 40 scarves to be donated. If you are interested in participating you can email Barb at kipper38@msn.com for more information. This is the scarf I made. I have been knitting for about 6 years now and really enjoy it. I am not a fast knitter though. This scarf took a few months for me to complete but I am very happy that I finally finished it and it is going to someone that can really use it. The scarf was made with 5 different knitting patterns and is called a sampler scarf. You can click on the photo to see the patterns close up. I hope that the person who receives this scarf will get a lot of comfort from it. That's it for today. I hope to be back next Friday with another pink item to share until then be sure to check out Beverly's blog to see what the other participants are sharing today too. As always thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Pink Saturday!
