Technique Tuesday Video

I finally had a chance this weekend to make this months Technique Video. In this video I will be showing you how I made the background for this card. I also used Cuttlebug Sketch 40 for the layout.

I orginally made this card for a friend of mine who needed a thank you card for her daughters music teacher. I made an extra one though and have put up for sale in my Etsy shop. I hope you enjoy the video if you have any questions let me know.

July Papertrey Bloghop

It's time for another Papertrey Bloghop.

This month the challenge was to make something using text. This is what I came up with
I used this weeks CPS sketch for my layout. I also decided to finally use my Honeybee stamp set that I got for Mothers Day and to try a new stamping technique called Newsprint Revel from the April/May 2009 Technique Junkies Newsletter. It is a variation of emboss resist. The stamp I used for the technique is from the new Polka Dots Basics II set. I originally wanted to use one of the PTI Script stamps for the background instead of newspaper but I had a really hard time getting them to line up and stamp evenly. If anyone has any tips to help with that let me know. For the rest of the card I stamped the bee with Momento black and PTI Lemon Tart ink then I cut it out using a plain circle Nestabilities die and matted it on a scalloped Summer Sunrise circle. The Lemon Tart background was embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder and I stamped the Queen Bee sentiment on a piece of white grossgrain ribbon to finish it off. That's it for now I am off to check out with the other participants came up with. I hope to be back on Tuesday with my monthly technique video. Until then I hope you have a great night and thanks for stopping by.

Happy Birthday Richie!

Thankfully Emilia and my dad are back to normal and this week has been a better one. They never figured out what was wrong with either of them. I am just glad they are both doing well now and hopefully things will stay that way.
Today is my husbands birthday. He likes to think of his birthday as just another day but Emilia and I made him cards anyways. This is the card Emilia made him
Normally Emilia does not like doing crafts but when I told her about the Bingo Blast Technique from the April/May 2009 Technique Junkies newsletter she wanted to give it a try and loved it! We had some bingo daubers from when she was little and they worked perfectly for this technique. She picked the saying stamp from Lasting Impressions With Panache because she hates the word Cool and thought Rich would think it was funny she used that word. I gave her a few suggestions about how to put the card together but overall she did most of it on her own. She even took the photo too.
This is the card I made him
Rich use to collect CD's but in the last couple of years he has sold most of them and started collecting records instead. He has a huge record collection now so I thought this card would be perfect for him. I used this weeks Mojo Monday Sketch for the layout. I was trying to receate the pattern on one of his favorite record covers for the background so I used the Simple Green Technique from the TJ April 2008 newsletter. I made the record by cutting out a black circle from a plain circle Nestabilitie die then I punched out a white circle and stamped the birthday sentiment from the Around and About Sentiments Set on it. After that I punched a hole in the middle and added a silver eyelet. A piece of New Leaf twill ribbon finishes it off.
Emilia and I bought him records for his present. He said he did not want to do anything special to celebrate today and went to work. I asked him if he wanted me to make him anything special to eat and he said no but I made him peanut butter cookies anyways.
That's it for now. I am skiping this weeks Pink Saturday but I will be back tomorrow with my PTI bloghop post. Until the I hope you have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

ETA: Rich came home early and wanted to go rollerbladding with Emilia. I went along to walk the dogs and take pictures. I thought I would share this one with you all.

Pink Saturday and a Personal Update

Once again sorry for not posting anything all week. Life has been a bit crazy around here. We ended up taking Emilia to the pediatrician on Monday for her back. Our regular doctor was not in but the one we saw did a bunch more tests and still could not come up with anything that was causing her so much pain. She did end up giving her something stronger for it though, Naproxen, but it ate her stomach up. I kept asking them for a muscle relaxant instead but they said there were no safe ones to give to children. Emilia is not a little kid anymore though she is almost as big as me. Our pediatrician finally ended up giving her Valium. Thankfully I didn't have to give it to her. I still want to know how Valium is safer to give a child than a muscle relaxant?? Fortunately I was able to get enough doses of Naproxen into her that it helped her back pain but now she is on Zantac to get her stomach back to normal. At least her back pain is gone now though. They had scheduled her for an MRI next Thursday but if she continues to be pain free this weekend I am going to cancel it. On top of that my dad ended up in the hospital Wednesday morning too. My mom said she found him in bed having what she thought was a seizure. She was able to get him to come out of it but he didn't know who she was after that. He managed to get himself dressed and let her drive him to hospital though. They have done tons of tests on him the last few days too to come up with nothing that could have caused it. He is still in the hospital for observation though. Hopefully they will let him come home soon. Because of all this I have not had much time to stamp but today I am sharing a special order I was able to get done the other day for a fellow homeschool mom's daughter who's birthday is next week. She had seen the crochet flowers I made in this post and asked me if I could make them into barrettes and pins. I thought that was a great idea and told her yes. This is what I came up with
She loved how they came out so I offered to make packaging to put them in.

I started with the My Timeless Template Ready Set Wrap. I used Hibiscus Burst Cardstock for the base then created the floral paper by stamping PTI Stampers Select White Cardstock with the grid stamp from the Guildlines set using versamark ink. After that I created the pattern paper by stamping the flower from the PTI Little Lady set in the grid using Berry Sorbet,Hibiscus, Plum Pudding and Lavender Moon Perfect Match Ink. When I was done with that I colored in the middles with a Y17 Copic Sketch Marker. For the outside wrap I used Plum Pudding Cardstock that I embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. To finish it off I tied some Hibiscus satin ribbon around the front then added a tiny tag that was stamped with the birthday wishes sentiment from the original mixed messages set with Plum Pudding Ink to the handle and tied it with some jute twine. When the box is opened you will find this. I made a small matching matchbox to put the barrettes and pins in.
You can see a great video for how to make one here.
I am planning on making more of these to put up for sale in my Etsy shop when I get some extra time but if anyone is interested in buying one before then let me know I am happy to do custom orders and as you can see they make great gifts. That's it for now. Be sure to stop by Beverly's blog to see what everyone else is sharing today. I am hoping to be able to make my monthly technique video this afternoon and things will get back to normal next week. I am planning on staring school with Emilia again on Monday too but we are only going to do it part time until after Labor Day. As always thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Pink Saturday.

Chocolate Pink Saturday.

Sorry for not posting anything all week. I have lots of ideas for things to make but it was one of those weeks where I could not get motivated to try them so today I am sharing a pink card I originally shared in this post
Believe it or not I don't like Chocolate. I know I am in the minority on that one. I love vanilla and peanut butter though. I just relisted this card in my Etsy shop and think it would be great for anyone that loves chocolate. I did manage to start working on something new and pink yesterday though and hope to share it with you next Saturday. I also plan on working on this months technique video today and hope to be able to share it with you Tuesday. Until then I hope you have a great Pink Saturday and make sure you stop by Beverly's blog to see the other participants today too. I will be back soon with more things to share.

ETA: We ended up in the Children's Hospital ER with Emilia at 2 this morning. She had been complaining that her back hurt on an off since Monday. I had called the pediatricians office about it on Thursday and they said to give her more Advil than I had been giving her and to use a heating pad but if it wasn't better by Friday bring her in. Friday morning she woke up feeling better so I didn't take her in but by that afternoon things started to get worse again. We ended up spending 5 hours in the ER this morning to have lots of blood tests and xrays done but they still could not come up with any reason for the pain so they sent us home and without any stronger pain meds then I had been giving her. Needless to say I was not very happy about that or the doctors we were dealing with. By this afternoon she was in horrible pain again so I put in a call in for the doctor on call. Thankfully she was really nice and told me I could give her something stronger for the pain and that seemed to help. If she is not better by tomorrow we will have to take her to urgent care again but I am hoping and praying that after a good nights sleep she will feel a lot better. Anyways I just wanted you all know that since I am going on 1 1/2 hours of sleep today I did not get a chance to make this months technique video that I was planning on so it probably will not be posted on Tuesday like I hoped it would. I will get to it as soon as I can though. I am hoping in the meantime that we find some answers for this soon because it is really hard to see her in this much pain.

Pink Saturday and a Melon Challenge

ETA: I received a GSS honorable mention for this project from Nicole Heady. It is always very exciting to get one of those from her!

First off Happy 4th of July! It is hard to believe that 6 months of the year have already gone by. We don't have any special plans to celebrate the holiday here but I am happy to be able to share another Pink Saturday Post though. Today I am sharing something I made for my Etsy Sheteam July challenge. This month the theme is melons and this is what I came up with.

I started by using Lauren Meaders Pack a Picnic Template for the box and used Stampers Select White Cardstock as my base. It is kind of hard to see but I used my Score Pal to make a grid pattern all over it. Next I cut the front panel from some Raspberry Fizz Cardstock then ran it through my Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder. I did the same thing with the top but used Basic Black cardstock instead. After that I tied a piece of New Leaf Twill ribbon around the top then cut out some seeds and attached them to the front. Inside the box you will find these.
4 mini watermelon note cards. I got the inspiration for these here but I changed a few things. I used Papertrey Raspberry Fizz, New Leaf and Stampers Select White Cardstock. I also stamped the seeds using the raindrop from the Scattered Showers Set then ran the whole thing though my Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder before I folded it in half. There are not any bites in mine either. I think these little watermelons would make great place cards or thank you notes for summer parties. I will be putting this set up in my Etsy shop if anyone is interested in buying it. That's it for now. Be sure to check out Beverly's Blog to see the list of the rest of the people that are participating today. I hope you all have a great Pink Saturday and a safe and happy 4th. As always thanks for stopping by.
